Through this unit, students will develop their knowledge of what extreme weather and extreme climate are, their understanding of the meteorological processes responsible for extreme weather and climate, their place knowledge of Oymyakon in Russia, Mawsynram in India and the Danakil depression in Ethiopia, their understanding of how extreme weather and climate affect people, and their geographical skills, including weather observation, interpreting weather charts and the use of geographical information systems (GIS).
